Abstract

This study is a reflection regarding the creation and artistic presentation at opening ceremony of the 67th Brazilian Congress of Nursing in 2015, developed by a multiprofessional team involving students and professionals in the arts and nursing. Via artistic expression and circus elements, the history of nursing was portrayed, beginning with the care during war and stimulating senses so the audience could “dream” and awaken to new possibilities of nursing, “new ways” for the art of caring, attending to the central theme of the event. We applied Arts-based Knowledge Translation strategies during workshops, talks, bibliographical research and images to create this presentation. The result was the construction of five scenes that provoked reflections in viewers about the history and the profession with the possibilities of involving art in nursing knowledge. The show fomented discussions about human relations in Nursing, promoting empathy, compassion and hope. This was an encouragement to study, reflect and register the process of creating this presentation as part of a collective work, registering its balance, collaboration and respect to the diversity of dispositions and interests of each professional, which were articulated for actions towards integrality of care.
