Research and Historical Nursing Documentation in the Northern Region of the State of Mato Grosso – Brazil

The objective of this study is to perform a historical rescue on nursing in the municipality of Sinop, northern region of the State of Mato Grosso, showing how important was the participation of these professionals in the history of this region. It’s about a qualitative research of basic field, of exploratory and descriptive character, performed through documental, bibliographic and interviews procedures. The study was performed in the municipality of Sinop, between June and July 2013, where was located six nursing professionals who worked during the colonization of the northern region of Mato Grosso between 1970 and 1990. The research was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of the Júlio Muller Hospital, under no. 36153 on 06/13/2012. Through the collected informations, were
classified into four categories for a better understanding and use of information, being them: First Steps of Health and Nursing in Sinop / MT; Nursing as a vocation versus Nursing as a profession; The Human factor is over, in most professionals...; and Working Conditions. Through this research it was possible to observe the importance of nursing, especially with the work done by the midwives, for the effective colonization in the northern region of Mato Grosso.
