This study is aimed at revealing the origins and development of the School of Nursing Costa Rica to its insertion at the University of Costa Rica, as well as analyzing the impact of nurse training in the Costa Rican society through a documental analysis of the existing historical records about nursing teaching in Costa Rica between 1897 and 1972. The process of finding and data collection was
conducted by reviewing secondary sources located in the National Library of the University of Costa Rica (SIBDI) and the files belonging to the Museum of the School of Nursing at the University of Costa Rica. We consider that analyzing the past of our profession through the eyes of the present promotes the understanding of the events that shaped the reality in which we are immersed and add different epistemological-paradigmatic perspectives with which we are governed today.
