Management of the humanization in a hospital institution for treating leprosy

Qualitative and historical-social study intended to analyze the management of the National Humanization Policy in a Public Hospital specialized in treating Leprosy in Santa Catarina. National Humanization Policy was used as theoretical benchmark. Documentary study with textual analysis of documents, which were organized in checklist. In the two stages of the historical cutting, from 1940 to 2006, when health care was provided through the individual and proper care of professionals and Sisters of Charity; and from 2006 to 2014, characterized by the management of working and personnel-related conditions. The result is the emergence of the category: From the humanized care practice to the humanization of management. This result reflects the improvement in the working relationships, thus easing the working process, but hindering the look at the institutionalized person. We conclude that there is a weak understanding of the National Humanization Policy for the humanized practice in the surveyed health service.
