Chemical Rubefacients In The Nursing Semiotechnique (1916-1947)

Introduction: The chemical rubefacients was treatments used irritants and attended nursing care. Objective: To describe the early teachings of chemical rubefacients in semiotechnique nursing. Method: documental and historical research based on Brazilian nursing books and articles until the 1940s, focused on substances, materials, application techniques and precautions. Results: we found
informations about antiphlogestina, iodine tincture, poultice (homemade, turpentine and Langlebert) and mustard plaster (sinapism poultice, chest wrapping, pediluvio and Rigolot). This demonstrates that the semiotechique knowledges were not uniform, quite the contrary, there were lots of chemicals agents, application forms and levels of modernity that were parallel or overlapping,
requiring much of the nurses.
