“Nursing Practitioners and Nursing Assistants”
Keywords:
fac-símileAbstract
Nursing counted in its historical evolution, several participants, among these, the attendants. The text that follows was written by Haydée Guanis Doourado, published as an editorial in the Brazilian Journal of Nursing, in 1964, and it reveals that for 15 years, from 1946 to 1964, attendants were allowed to work in hospitals at the time. With the economic development in Brazil, it was necessary to train attendants in open auxiliary courses, such as in the city of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and the Federal District. The ABEN Education Commission stimulated training through the dissemination of scholarships provided by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC). Concerned about the situation, ABEn proposed discussions in the Nursing Congress, so that the changes happened in this scenario, with the aim of guaranteeing a quality assistance to the population of Brazil.
